Kolon TissueGene (950160) is the most notable mid-cap biotech stock to watch in the current market environment, according to Korea Investment & Securities on September 12. The brokerage maintained its “Buy” rating and target price of 100,000 won.
As of 10:29 a.m., shares of Kolon TissueGene were trading at 49,300 won, up 4,100 won (9.07%) from the previous session.
Haejoo Wi, an analyst at Korea Investment & Securities, said, “The announcement of Phase 3 clinical trial results scheduled for June and July next year is the key momentum. Even considering the gap in near-term catalysts, Kolon TissueGene remains the most compelling mid-cap biotech stock at this point.”
Wi noted that the company is currently conducting a high-probability Phase 3 trial in the U.S. osteoarthritis (OA) drug market, which has a large patient base and no competing therapies. Despite this, Kolon TissueGene’s market capitalization stands at only 3.8 trillion won.
He added, “The KRX Healthcare Index’s 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio (PER) is at 42 times, with multiple premiums granted to U.S. export-oriented companies.”
Regarding its lead candidate TG-C (formerly Invossa), Wi projected, “When TG-C achieves a meaningful initial market share of 0.5% in the U.S. around 2030, sales could reach 1.2 trillion won with net profit of 291 billion won.”
