The KOSPI, which briefly touched the 2600 mark, ended lower after giving back its earlier gains.
On March 13, the KOSPI closed at 2573.64, down 1.18 points(0.05%) from the previous session. The index opened at 2598.06, higher than the previous day’s close of 2574.82.
On the KOSPI market, institutions bought 445.2 billion won worth of stocks, but foreign investors and retail investors sold 492.9 billion won and 64.2 billion won, respectively, leading the index to fall.
By sector, metal stocks dropped more than 3%, and textiles & apparel, pharmaceuticals, insurance, transportation & storage, among others, fell by around 1%. Sectors like entertainment & culture, construction, electrical & electronics, retail, chemicals, and telecommunications also declined. On the other hand, transportation equipment & parts rose by over 3%, while medical & precision instruments saw a gain of more than 1%. Securities, electric & gas, and financial stocks also ended in positive territory.
Among the top market-cap stocks, there was mixed performance. Samsung Biologics(207940), LG Energy Solution(373220), and others fell by over 2%, while Celltrion(068270) dropped by more than 1%. POSCO Holdings(005490), Samsung Electronics(005930), and others closed lower. In contrast, Hanwha Aerospace(012450) rose by over 6%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(329180) saw a more than 4% increase. Hyundai Mobis(012330) and KB Financial Group(105560) gained 3% and 2%, respectively, while Shinhan Financial Group(055550), Hyundai Motor Company(005380), and Kia(000270) all saw a rise of over 1%. SK hynix(000660) ended slightly higher.
Among individual stocks, LS(006260) surged by over 18% following news of a stake acquisition by Hoban Group. It was reported that Hoban Group had purchased less than 3% of LS shares through a securities firm.
On the KOSDAQ, the index closed at 722.80, down 6.69 points(0.92%) from the previous session. The index had opened at 735.75, 0.86% higher, and reached a high of 737.29 during the session but gave back the gains in the afternoon and closed in negative territory.
By investor type, foreign and institutional investors sold 81.7 billion won and 124 billion won worth of stocks, respectively, contributing to the index’s decline. Retail investors were net buyers, purchasing 210.6 billion won.

On the other hand, market leader Alteogen(196170) gained 3.88%, and Classys(214150) rose 2.04%, while JYP Entertainment(035900) increased by 0.86%.
