Samsung Electronics(005930) and SK hynix(000660) are showing weakness in early trading. This is believed to be a result of concerns over the profitability of Micron Technology, a major player in the memory semiconductor industry, which has fallen short of market expectations.

The decline in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix is attributed to the sharp drop in Micron Technology's stock price, which fell following disappointing earnings results. On the 21st(local time), Micron Technology's stock plummeted 8.04%, closing at $94.72 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Micron Technology's second-quarter fiscal year 2025(December-February) margin came in at 37.9%, below the market consensus of 38.4%. The expected margin for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025(March-May) also fell short of expectations, with a forecasted 36.5%.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, noted, "Although there is an expectation of foreign and institutional investors' simultaneous net buying of semiconductor stocks this week, the rotation between semiconductor and defense stocks is expected to occur frequently." She added, "While semiconductor stocks performed well last week due to expectations of early recovery in the industry and positive news from Micron's results, Micron's sharp drop on Friday due to margin concerns has become a short-term variable."
