South Korea’s KOSPI index traded higher on April 15, supported by strong institutional buying.
As of 2:29 p.m. KST, the KOSPI was up 25.17 points, or 1.02%, at 2,481.06. The index opened at 2,464.51, gaining 8.62 points or 0.35% from the previous session.
In the main board, retail investors and foreign investors net sold 137.4 billion won and 73.1 billion won, respectively, while institutional investors net bought 135.2 billion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, all but four were trading higher.
Hyundai Motor (005380) rose 4.96%, Kia (000270) climbed 3.98%, KB Financial Group (105560) advanced 2.63%, and Hyundai Mobis (012330) gained 2.55%. On the downside, Hanwha Aerospace (012450) declined 2.90%, Celltrion (068270) lost 1.83%, Hanwha Ocean (042660) dropped 0.62%, and Samsung Biologics (207940) slipped 0.19%.
Market heavyweight Samsung Electronics (005930) was trading at 56,850 won, up 1.16% from the previous session.
Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index was also in positive territory, up 3.41 points or 0.48% at 712.39. The index had opened at 709.51, up 0.53 points or 0.07% from the previous close of 708.98.
