As of 11:11 a.m., the KOSPI stood at 2,573.75, down 5.73 points, or 0.22%, from the previous close. The index opened at 2,587.93, up 8.45 points, or 0.33%, and briefly remained in positive territory before reversing direction.
In the main board market, foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 58.2 billion won and 76.7 billion won, respectively. Retail investors, on the other hand, showed a net buying position of 115.5 billion won. Foreign investors, who had initially begun the session with net purchases, shifted to net selling as the session progressed.
However, in the KOSPI 200 futures market, foreign investors maintained a net buying position of 146 billion won.
Among large-cap stocks, SK hynix (000660) fell 1.16%, LG Energy Solution (373220) declined 2.75%, Samsung Biologics (207940) edged down 0.19%, Hanwha Aerospace (012450) dropped 0.79%, and KB Financial Group (105560) lost 2.86%.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics (005930) rose slightly by 0.09%. Automakers Hyundai Motor (005380) and Kia (000270) gained 1.71% and 2.39%, respectively. NAVER (035420) advanced 1.06%, and Samsung C&T (028260) climbed 0.66%.
Korea Zinc (010130) continued its rally, rising 10.37% after announcing a large-scale treasury share cancellation.
By sector, precision medical equipment (-4.69%), finance (-1.26%), and construction (-1.20%) were among the weakest performers, while metals (+3.33%) and telecommunications (+0.96%) showed gains.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was down 9.40 points, or 1.29%, at 720.19. The index opened at 731.01, up 1.42 points or 0.19%, but soon reversed course and continued to decline.
Notable KOSDAQ decliners included EcoPro BM (247540), down 4.34%; EcoPro (086520), down 2.77%; Alteogen (196170), down 1.13%; HLB (028300), down 0.44%; Rainbow Robotics (277810), down 4.42%; and Hugel (145020), down 2.99%.
On the upside, PharmaResearch (214450) rose 2.16%, SM Entertainment (041510) added 0.57%, and Pearl Abyss (263750) climbed 3.69%.
