On July 31, Steel stocks declined in early trading following news that steel and aluminum products were excluded from the recent Korea-U.S. tariff agreement.
As of 9:04 a.m., shares of HiSteel (071090) were down 12.81% from the previous session. Dongyang Steel Pipe (008970) dropped 7.85%, Nexteel (092790) fell 6.43%, while Husteel (005010) and Daedong Steel (048470) declined 4.48% and 6.05%, respectively.
On July 30 (local time), U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that tariffs on steel and aluminum would remain unchanged. The Office of the President of South Korea also confirmed that these categories were not part of the ongoing negotiations.
The United States currently imposes high tariffs—up to 50%—on imports of steel and aluminum products.
